But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.   (Romans 5:8)

WHY HE DIED   (click on the underlined verses to read them)

He endured immense suffering and hostility for the joy set before Him (in heaven at God's throne).   Heb 12:1-3  

He died for us because He loved us.  Gal 2:20-21Eph 5:1-2Rom 8:31-32,  1 Cor 5:7

His death demonstrates God's love for us.  Rom 5:8   

He died so that anyone who believes in Him would not perish but have eternal life and live with Him.  John 3:14-211 Thes 5:9-10,  1 Pet 3:18

He died to wash us from our sins.  Rev 1:5-61 Cor 15:3-6

He died to bear our sins and justify us.   Isaiah 53:11-12 Isaiah 53:5   (See all of Isaiah 53)

He died so that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us (who do not walk according to the flesh).  Rom 8:3-4 

He gave Himself for our sins to deliver us from this present evil age.  Gal 1:3-5

He gave Himself for us to redeem us and purify us as His own people.  Titus 2:11-15   

He gave Himself for the church to sanctify, cleanse, and present her to Himself a glorious church.  Eph 5:25-27

He suffered and died to sanctify (or make holy) the people through His blood.  Heb 13:12-16

He died so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.  2 Cor 5:21

He died to destroy the devil and his works.  1 John 3:8,  Heb 2:14-18

He died so that He might be Lord of both the dead and the living.  Rom 14:8-11

His death on the cross reconciled all things to God.  This work pleased God the Father.  Col 1:19-23  (Remember, His goal when He lived on earth was to please His Father.  See Christ's Obedience)



He suffered so that He could be a merciful and faithful High Priest who could aid those who are tempted. Heb 2:14-18,   Heb 4:14-16

He learned obedience by the things He suffered.  Heb 5:5-11  (See Christ's Obedience)

His obedience through suffering enabled Him to become the perfect author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him.  Heb 5:5-11

God's oath appointed Him to be High Priest, and He, through obedience, has become the perfect High Priest forever.  Heb 7:25-28

Therefore, He had to suffer to be the perfect author of salvation.  Heb 2:9-10   ( See Note)

He became poor so that we, through His poverty, might be rich.  2 Cor 8:9

He had to suffer.  Luke 24:46-49  Acts 17:2-3

After His resurrection, He explained why it was necessary for Him to have suffered.  Luke 24:44-53,  Luke 24:25-27
